Slow Burn (The Fitzgerald Family series)

Slow Burn (The Fitzgerald Family series) - E.B. Walters I’m not particularly inspired today. I don’t even know how to start. But hey! That doesn’t mean the book wasn’t good or anything, it just means that my brain doesn’t want to cooperate today.

Okay…

Ashley Fitzgerald witnessed the death of her parents in a fire at the age of fifteen. Now hunted by the memories, she relies on her paintings and photographs to relieve her of the pain the memories bring. She has learned to live with the nightmares; she has learned to pretend that she’s not affected by them anymore. Ashley is a strong woman and a successful artist, but is she strong enough to go through the worst day of her life to find the responsible for the fire?

Ron Noble is a successful business man and part-time firefighter, he has the looks and the money to get whatever he wants, whoever he wants. But he is chased by rumors, rumors that leave him doubting who he is and what he stands for. And after receiving various unknown messages he is set to find the truth behind the fire from ten years ago. The fire that killed his father, the fire that his very own father could be responsible for, and his only way of doing that is by going after the only witnessed that survived it, Ashley.

When Ashley refuses to meet up with him, under the ruse he created of needing a painting for his grandmother, he decides to show at her place, uninvited.

Having been waiting all morning for her model, Ashley was a little bit more than irritated. So, when the doorbell rang and outside her door stood a handsome man, she didn’t think twice before scowling him for being late and pulling him inside, and then asking him to take his shirt off.

You can imagine how that went.

When Ron asks for Ashley’s help she obviously refuses, not only did he not say from the beginning she was mistaking him for her model, but he was also intent on making her relive her worst nightmare.

I admit I liked Ron’s persistence. He was, most of the time, pretty arrogant, alright? But arrogant or not the man got the thing going. If we were to wait for Ashley and her constant overthinking we would get no-freaking-where. Not that I blame her, it was not an easy thing to do either. But. But if you have a man like Ron all to yourself, you know… go for it! Stop overthinking it!

I had a few disagreements with Ashley along the story, especially with her need to protect the ones that did not need protecting. I understand that when you love someone you want them to be safe, but be forward with them. I cannot stand when people do things behind your back for your own good! I swear I can’t deal with that.

But moving on now.

The chemistry flowing between them was just… whoa! There were quite a few hot-hot-hot scenes, that mind you I thought would never end. Seriously. I was honestly fearing for their lives. Well, I am just kidding. Or maybe not.

Anyway. Needless to say I was rooting for them pretty badly. The way Ron was protective of her was just… swoooon! What probably made me love him the most was the fact that, even though Ashley did try to push him away for his own good, he didn’t give up, he never gave up on her.

But that’s not all there is here. The suspense was killing me! Killing, I say. I was biting my nails and suffering along with them. Trying to find the responsible for the fire –was it Ron’s father or was it not? I was honestly wrecking my brain to discover who was sending the letters and all that.

Slow Burn was a nerve wracking, hair pulling, and heartwarming tale. It has enough suspense and mystery to keep you on the edge of your seat; it has enough romance and passion to keep you swooning and aww’ing. It’s full of twists and turns, heartache and love; it’s an emotional roller coaster that had me glued to the pages till the very end.
